Effective means and methods of washing a burnt pan

It doesn’t matter who you are - a professional chef or an amateur culinary specialist, a housewife, or simply forced to cook for yourself personally. In any case, you can’t do without a pan. And once it is used, sooner or later there will come a moment when something burns inside, so you need to be prepared for such a turn of events.

What pollution are there?

You can face the situation when the pan burned, regardless of the products and dishes that were in it. But first of all, the most common pollution options should be considered. Unfortunately, they are the most persistent.

Often, dirt in pots appears when cooking rice. Removal of such a burnout is possible with vinegar, but keep in mind that this reagent is potent and can damage dishes when inaccurate or too long use. Just stand the remedy in a problem place exactly 60 minutes. More gentle substances are citric acid or freshly squeezed citrus juice.

An even more frequent remedy that most kitchens definitely have is baking soda. The concentrated solution is left inside until the next morning, and then the liquid is drained. Remains of dirt will be easily scraped off or cleaned with a dishcloth.

Even lovers of rice cereals and pilaf periodically keep blanks for the winter, for example, they cook various jams. But this product can also cause some difficulties, because it very easily sticks to dishes. A comprehensive remedy consisting of 50 g of soda, 5 g of citric acid, 100 ml of the popular product "White" and a glass of warm water will help to combat this clogging. It is worth considering that this composition is caustic and all manipulations must be carried out with rubber gloves (preferably in someone's presence).

First, the main active ingredients are mixed, then water is poured, another mixing is carried out, the solution is placed in a pan and boiled over low heat for 15 or 20 minutes. It remains only to wash the dishes under the tap, since the deposit will be evaporated, and the color of the coating will be like that of the dishes just brought from the store.

But in addition to various deposits, the dishes can be covered with just a touch of unaesthetic looking color.

From yellowness, the most ordinary soda helps excellently, with which a stain is sprinkled and immediately rubbed with a sponge. Citric acid is also a good remedy (after 15-20 minutes of processing, it is enough to rinse the pan, as usual). In case of blackness, immediately prepare a strong solution of laundry soap and boil problem dishes for 15 to 30 minutes, then leave it to cool for several hours. If necessary, this cleaning is repeated after 24 hours, but it is not suitable for aluminum containers.

Now we’ll look at how to eliminate blockages, caused by other foods and just prolonged use:

  • if a layer of soot arose from milk, this is a very serious pollution, those who tried to remove it will immediately agree with this. Pharmaceutical activated carbon comes to the rescue, a few tablets of which are sprinkled with a stain and washed off with cold water in half an hour. When there is no "coal", there is no need to run to the pharmacy. Hold the water in the pan for 10-15 minutes, sprinkle the bottom with salt after draining. After so holding for 2-3 hours, shake out the salt in a garbage bag and rub the inner surface with the hard edge of the sponge;
  • From time to time you have to figure out how to free the pots from captivity in old fat. In addition to ready-made household chemicals, a melamine sponge can be useful for this purpose, but it is recommended that only the outside of the kitchen utensils be treated with abrasive products. Often the pan is boiled in a weak solution of soda for two hours over low heat. Exposure to alkali at elevated temperature facilitates rinsing and stain removal;
  • caramel soot is removed using a paste of soda and salt, diluted in soapy water, or by boiling the dishes in a strong saline solution, to which a little soda is added. Soaking in diluted citric acid for 5-6 hours may help;
  • remove its scale layer will help its chemical antagonist - vinegar: pouring 100 g of acid into a saucepan filled almost to the edges, carefully boil the solution. Drain the liquid after dissolving, wash the dishes, as usual with heavy contamination, and then rinse under the tap;
  • the appearance of a layer of stubborn dirt is no better than the appearance of scale or plaque. The faithful allies in the fight against it are a combination of soda and citric acid. This combination covers the surface of a plentifully moistened pan, and in a matter of minutes it remains only to wash it off and rinse, as you always do.

How can I clean it?

Chemical factories produce dozens of different products that allow you to clean kitchen utensils and utensils of food debris and even small traces of it. But in any case, all formulations contain either formaldehyde, or surfactants, or acids, and therefore cannot be considered safe. There are other effective ways, while much more environmentally friendly:

  • the most common table salt comes to the rescue: it will require a lot. The salt layer must be slightly moistened and left for several hours, and preferably until the morning (or until the evening, according to circumstances). After exposure, the salt is washed off, the pan is cleaned with a sponge;
  • enhanced version: preparation of a strong solution, which is boiled and left until the morning, then the crust can be removed with an ordinary wooden spatula. Soda treatment is always more effective than sodium chloride, a glass of powder is consumed per 1.5 liters of water, the principle of action is the same;
  • when this remedy does not help, you can use "heavy artillery", that is, introduce vinegar. 50 g of soda ash and 90 g of acetic acid are added per liter of water (take it without dilution). Boil water with such additives for no more than 15 minutes. The solution is immediately poured into the toilet, the surface is cleaned with a sponge, washed under a stream of cold water and wiped dry;

Note: this method is not suitable for enameled pots, it should be used with caution and without overexposing the set time.

  • Considerable support in putting things in order can be provided not only by soda, but also coffee, more precisely, from the ground drink. It is possible to wash burnt products with water, having previously sustained this thick on the spot surface for a long time. If you are not a fan of coffee or at the moment it is not at hand, boiling in a dirty pan of chopped large onions will bring considerable benefits. It will, of course, be unsuitable for ingestion, however, soot can be cleaned easier. An alternative to onion is the peel of apples and potatoes, only it must be boiled for at least 30-40 minutes. When there is no purification, a tablespoon of citric acid will help out;
  • from liquid products that help wash burnt pots, pay attention to Coca-Cola. Fill the dishes with it for 120 minutes, and to make the effect stronger, slowly boil all this time;
  • no worse than the recipes invented by the American pharmacist, it turns out such an ancient remedy as ash. Water is added to it to make it look like porridge in consistency and spread evenly on the bottom. After an hour, you can fill the pan 1/4 with water, which is brought to a boil and kept on the smallest fire for another 60 minutes;
  • instead of ash, crushed or crushed activated carbon can be used (sold at any pharmacy without a prescription);
  • cleaning with toothpaste or toothpowder is recommended if the bottom and walls are covered with yellow spots that did not come off after the main cleaning.

If there is no desire to translate hygiene products for the oral cavity, there is an even more powerful way to clean pots with clerical glue. The method is something like this:

  • 10 liters of water, liquid glue (the entire package), a glass of drinking soda and a briquette of laundry soap are mixed in a large container;
  • a metal basin is boiled;
  • after boiling, one or more pots are cooked in a solution of at least 15 minutes, a maximum of 180 minutes;
  • turn off the gas or electricity, wait for the tank to cool;
  • when the liquid cools, the pans are removed, thoroughly worked out with washcloths or sponges so that there is no trace of carbon deposits.

However, it is unacceptable in this way to tidy up the dishes having a Teflon coating. It will be irreversibly damaged and will not be able to perform its functions. The easiest way to wash steel pans is to remove contaminants from them even with ordinary cleaning agents very quickly.

Soaked with the addition of gel, the peel disappears by itself, just a slight application of force is enough.

It happens, however, that even well-cleaned steel dishes are soiled to the limit (due to neglect or exposure to a very stable product - it does not matter). Then you can make a thick mixture (such as porridge) from drinking soda diluted with water. A blank is smeared on the burned area, and after a certain period of time the soot will come off under the action of a hard washcloth. Another method is boiling water, where 2 tablespoons of soda of any kind are added over 15 minutes.

External carbon deposits in a steel pan are cleaned by boiling it in a larger vessel, where 2/3 of water and 1/3 of vinegar essence are poured. The resulting solution should completely cover the dirty area. After heating, the liquid is allowed to cool, having prepared only a mixture of a glass of baking soda with 1/2 cup of table salt. Add a little vinegar on top and clean the bottom of the cooled pan.

If at the end of cleaning there is a white coating, gently pour a cloth with vinegar and wipe off stains or stains.

A universal way to cope with almost all pollution is laundry soap. Unlike the same soda, it acts on fats, proteins and carbohydrates not only as an alkali, but also as a surfactant. Any of the boiling methods just shown will be more efficient by adding soap shavings. There is such a way: boil 3 liters of water, pour 50 g of soap and 30 g of PVA glue into it after boiling. The resulting preparation must be boiled for at least 1/2 hour in a container covered with soot. If you put the pan itself in a metal bucket, you can wash it even outside.

Suppose PVA was not in the house, then they act like this:

  • take half a standard piece of laundry soap;
  • rub it on a grater, mixer or fork until a homogeneous powder;
  • add 0.15-0.2 kg of soda, stir again;
  • boil water in a covered bowl with the addition of three tablespoons of pasta.

The advantage of this option is that the mixture can be prepared in advance (on the eve of the holidays, say). Store it in a regular glass jar with a tightly closed lid.

How to quickly clean the dishes?

In order to choose the cleaning method correctly and not damage either the base material or the coating, you should carefully consider everything. Prepare rubber gloves for work to keep your skin clean and healthy. Of the tools you will need sponges and soft washcloths (hard abrasives can scratch even the most durable pan walls). To remove the crust from the inside should not be a knife, but a wooden spatula, so you get rid of burning, without parting with the coatings. Household wipes will help to complete the cleaning and give a shining shine. But after all, not one wall can burn.

A very big problem is to wash the bottom at home. Of course, you can wipe it from burning with sand, abrasive powders or pumice, but these are not the best ways. Connoisseurs recommend simpler, safer, and easier ways. First of all, boiling in a soda solution of the entire pan immediately.

If you need to clean a heavily burnt container from the outside, use vinegar or soap to support the effect of soda.


The most important principle in handling enamel pots is the speed of cleaning. After a few hours it will be much more difficult to remove the dirt (even exposure to water does not help). But at the same time, the vessel should itself cool, without cooling with running water and other tricks. Otherwise, the enamel will crack, and burning from an accidental unpleasant event will turn into a constant source of problems. Hard brushes and generally any abrasive treatment are strictly unacceptable.


It is very difficult to wash an aluminum pan, as any dirt instantly eats into the material. Fortunately, winged metal dishes burn out occasionally. If such an incident catches up with you, put the pan on a wet, unnecessary cloth for 20-30 minutes to make it easier to wash. And while it is standing, you might think which way to solve the problem is best chosen.

The first method is very simple - a half-hour boiling in a pan of a solution of 25 g of soda ash. It can also be mixed with utensils to a creamy consistency, add 60 g of hydrogen peroxide and cover the problem area with a layer of the resulting paste. Wait 5 minutes, clean the dirt with a washcloth and rinse the dishes under running water. Unfortunately, it happens that all these methods fail. Then enters the fight a combination of tablespoons of soda and silicate glue, which is also diluted with water and boiled for 1/2 hour.

After cleaning the aluminum pan, a dark coating may appear in it. They cope with it like this: 15 g of borax are put on 300 g of water, 15 g of ammonia and the walls are smeared with this mixture. Then, after 30 minutes have passed, the pan should be thoroughly washed.

If there is no desire to engage in "chemical experiments", fill the container with yogurt or brine of any kind. An hour will be enough to leave only memories of the raid.

Absorbent charcoal is absolutely safe for pots of any kind: grind 3 tablets of it to a powder state, sprinkle them with carbon and wait about 40 minutes. Then pour in cold water and wait half an hour, then rinse the dishes. So the most stubborn pollution can be removed. If there is a lot of time, and there is no desire to make efforts at all, whey will support you. The spot is covered by 20-30 mm, left unattended for 12 hours. After this treatment (without boiling), the carbon layer is washed off with ordinary cold water.

Cast iron utensils are fundamentally different from those made from other materials. It is advisable to avoid washing it and getting liquids, since water, having penetrated into the smallest pores, will immediately cause powerful corrosion.

About soaking in a soap solution, about leaving a wet pan after cleaning, counting on its independent drying, there can be no question!

For washing, if this is still necessary, use warm water and a soft sponge. Burnt food is removed by adding water to the top of the pollution, bringing it to a boil. Then, allowing to cool, the dirty liquid is drained, the residue is removed with napkins for washing dishes, or paper towels. Wipe the inside and dry the pan in the space provided for it.


You can wash the lid just like the dishes for which it was made (in most cases). Glass lids are most often washed with a combination of dishwashing detergent and low abrasive powder. When there is no powder and if you want to farm in an environmentally friendly way, soda ash will come to the rescue.

Glassware itself successfully gets rid of dirt when using ammonia; after its application, the surface of the glass is dried with a flannel cloth, additional rinsing is not required.

Tips & Tricks

It is important to know that not all methods of cleaning pots are equally useful. Never use metal brushes (except for work with cast iron utensils). Both enamel and thin aluminum will be irreversibly damaged. The pan will also turn out to be worthless after it has been worked on with a knife or other sharp object. Under the ban is the use of products that are released for cleaning gas and electric stoves, microwave ovens, ovens: they leave invisible particles, which are very difficult to wash off.

A useful trick that sometimes prevents the appearance of burning even on the most "capricious" enameled pots - do not leave them on hot plates and tiles, and also put on fire empty. Raw potatoes will easily be able to give shine to stainless pots, a small piece of which needs to be drawn along all the walls.

Having found water streaks, you should not be upset either - they are cleaned with table vinegar applied to a soft sponge.

Deep-rooted spots will be removed by a uniform mixture of ammonia and tooth powder, which must be rubbed with a napkin. In the end, the dirt and detergent will be washed off with warm water.
